Tom Underwood talked about tax collections and other issues affecting Main Street businesses
NFIB State Director Tom Underwood was a guest Tuesday on “Kruser and Krew” on NewsTalk 590 WVLK in Lexington.
He spoke with Dave “Kruser” Krusenklaus about the latest Small Business Optimism Index and the nation’s ongoing labor shortage. He also discussed House Bill 253
“The way it is right now, there are around 600 small cities and counties (throughout the commonwealth) that collect a payroll tax and/or a net profits tax,” Underwood said. That means a small business that operates in different locations must pay taxes in multiple jurisdictions. “Unfortunately, most of these small cities and counties require that you use their paper forms … and send a paper check…. I found one company that’s filing 190 of these.”
HB 253 would streamline the process by creating a single website that allows small business owners to pay these local taxes online, Underwood said.
