‘Our members had one message for lawmakers: Kansans need tax relief now.’

TOPEKA (March 11, 2024) – The National Federation of Business (NFIB) here in Kansas hosted Small Business Day at the Capitol, which featured conversations with Senate President Ty Masterson, House Speaker Dan Hawkins, and Rep. Adam Smith. There, small business owners asked questions, discussed the challenges they face, and urged lawmakers to cut taxes.

Following the event, NFIB State Director Dan Murray said:

“Our members had one message for lawmakers: Kansans need tax relief now. Our state is sitting on a $3 billion surplus – hard-earned money that belongs to the taxpayers. Small businesses operate on impossibly thin margins. Providing relief would allow our job creators to expand their businesses, bolster their benefits, and raise wages. We ask state lawmakers to come together to support meaningful tax relief for small businesses and the hardworking Kansans they employ.”
