Initial Comment on California Election Results
Ballots are still being counted and official results will not be certified until December 13, but if enough contests hold as is, NFIB California, its political action committee, and leadership council, will have had a good Election Day.
Although one remains close, all four ballot initiatives are going NFIB’s way:
- Proposition 5, which sought to lower the voter threshold to pass bonds and which NFIB recommended a ‘No’ vote on, is losing.
- Proposition 32, which would raise the state’s minimum wage rate and which NFIB recommended a ‘No’ vote on, is losing 52% to 48% as of November 6.
- Proposition 33, which would have given local governments greater rent-control powers and which NFIB urged a ‘No’ vote on, is losing.
- Proposition 36, which toughens retail theft laws and which NFIB urged a ‘Yes’ vote on is handily winning, 70% to 30%.
In the State Senate, all four candidates the NFIB CA PAC endorsed were winning:
- Senate District 1—Megan Dahle
- Senate District 19—Rosilicie Ochoa-Bogh
- Senate District 23—Suzette Valladares
- Senate District 37—Steven Choi
