'Freedom Summer' Sales Tax Holiday Good Opportunity to Support Small Businesses

“Freedom Summer,” the third of Florida’s seven sales tax holidays for 2023 began on May 29 and runs through Sept. 4. The state’s first tax sales tax holiday, on impact-resistent doors and windows, began last summer and runs through June 30, 2024. The second, on items used for disaster preparedness, ran from May 27 to June 9. “These tax holidays are a great opportunity for people to shop small and support local businesses,” NFIB State Executive Director Bill Herrle said. During the Freedom Summer tax holiday, businesses won’t collect sales tax on select fishing, camping, boating, pool and general outdoor supplies, children’s toys and athletic equipment, and tickets to concerts, sporting events, museums, plays, cultural events and use of private or membership clubs providing physical fitness facilities. Energy Star appliances, July 1-June 30, 2024 ? Gas ranges and cooktops, July 1-June 30, 2024 ? Back-to-school supplies, July 24-Aug. 6 ? “Tool Time,” Sept. 2-Sept. 8
