NFIB supports efforts to eliminate this onerous tax once and for all
NFIB strongly supported legislation to cut the sales tax on commercial leases from 5.5% to 4.5% with additional legislation further reducing it to 2% in the second quarter of 2024.
Beginning June 1, the state sales tax rate imposed on the total rent charged for renting, leasing, letting, or granting a license to use real property (also known as “commercial rentals”) is reduced from 4.5% to 2%. That doesn’t include local discretionary sales surtax imposed by some counties. Click here to see the added sales tax rate in your county.
When lawmakers return to Tallahassee in January, we will urge them to eliminate this onerous tax once and for all. No other state makes businesses pay a tax on their monthly rent!
