DeWine's Budget Would Help Ohio's Small Businesses

NFIB State Executive Director Roger Geiger released the following statement today in response to Gov. Mike DeWine’s State of the State address: “Governor DeWine’s proposed budget would help be good for Ohio’s small businesses. It’s balanced, with no deficit spending, on a reasonably forecast general revenue stream using one-time dollars for one-time projects. That lessens the likelihood that the General Assembly will need to raise taxes down the road. “Our recent survey of small business owners throughout Ohio shows over 40 percent of NFIB members are hiring for positions requiring training in the skilled trades. Governor DeWine’s one-time investment of $300 million in upgrading technology and equipment to improve career tech training is a significant investment in the future workforce. “Our small business members also are encouraged by the governor’s plan to spend $2.5 billion in one-time dollars to develop business-ready sites in every region of Ohio. These efforts to attract new businesses and industries to the state will benefit existing local businesses that support them and their employees. “With his proposed spending plan, Governor DeWine has shown us that his administration has a clear vision for Ohio’s future economic development.”
