Date: April 08, 2024

Update on the legislation circulating Congress and the Colorado General Assembly most impactful for small businesses

A March 28 webinar hosted by NFIB Colorado brought members up to speed on the progress of legislation affecting small businesses currently running through both the Colorado General Assembly and through Congress.

Josselin Castillo,  a Federal Government Relations Principal for NFIB, led off the free-to-members webinar with a report on the progress of NFIB’s No. 1 priority for the year, passage of the Main Street Tax Certainty Act, which would keep the Small Business Deduction in the federal tax code from expiring at the end of next year.

She also discussed credit card processing fees, right to repair, overtime pay, independent contractors, and transparency of hospital and pharmacy benefits mangers billing.

Tony Gagliardi, NFIB Colorado state director, followed Castillo and discussed legislation concerning:

  • state budget exceeding $40 billion
  • collection of debts owed
  • environmental initiatives
  • wage claims against general contractors for the conduct of subcontractors
  • massive changes to the deceptive trade practices act
  • the Health Families & Workplace Act
  • employee trip reduction efforts
  • state limiting the number of parking spaces in new multiple housing.

Nothing good to report in the above topics, but there was good news for hikers. Click on the graphic below to listen to the 40-minute webinar.
