Senate Approves Texas Regulatory Consistency Act

AUSTIN (May 16, 2023) – Following the Senate’s passage of the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act (HB 2127), which will ensure small business owners are better suited to comply with laws regulating their business by following one set of rules across the state, NFIB State Director Annie Spilman issued a statement:

“For more than five years, as cities stepped outside their jurisdiction, the pandemic pumped the brakes on our economy, and uncertainty plagued the business environment, our small business owners have done their best to keep their doors open, take care of their employees, and serve their customers. Today, the Senate has joined the House in standing up for Texas job creators. The Texas Regulatory Consistency Act will give small business owners relief from the current patchwork of regulations across our state and make it easier for them to do what they do best.”

Background:

The Texas Regulatory Consistency Act passed out of the House on a bipartisan basis in April. NFIB and local job creators testified before both the House and Senate in support of the bill, with one NFIB member saying: “We need the protection of the state, when it comes to cities telling us how to run our businesses.”
