Property tax relief and regulatory consistency among priorities for Texas small businesses

Governor Abbott Reiterates Commitment to Small Business Solutions in State of the State Address

AUSTIN (Feb. 16, 2023) – Following Governor Abbott’s State of the State address, where he reiterated his commitment to providing property tax relief for small business owners and ensuring Texas remains economically competitive, NFIB State Director Annie Spilman issued a statement:   “In the past three years, our small businesses have faced skyrocketing prices, disrupted supply chains, and a persistent worker shortage. On top of these obstacles, our small business owners continue to face a myriad of regulations that make it difficult to keep their doors open. Our local job creators are asking for greater certainty and meaningful property tax relief so they can continue to meet their customers’ needs and invest in their workers. Listing property tax relief as an emergency item this legislative session, demonstrates that Governor Abbott not only understands these challenges, but that he is committed to their solutions.  “We will continue working with the Governor, his team, and the Legislature to ensure the Lone Star State remains open for business.”   On Tuesday, Governor Abbott delivered the keynote address at NFIB’s Small Business Day in Austin, where he outlined his efforts on behalf of local job creators.
