NFIB Radio, Digital Ads Urge General Assembly to ‘Stop Lawsuit Abuse’

Date: March 05, 2024

The legislation is part of a package of bills called the Small Business Bill of Rights

NFIB today launched a radio and digital ad campaign urging the General Assembly to pass Senate Bill 533 and stop lawsuit abuse in the state.

“Supporting S.B. 533 would provide greater certainty for Main Street businesses as they contend with inflation and economic uncertainty that began four years ago this month with the COVID-19 pandemic,” NFIB State Director Ben Homeyer said.

S.B. 533 is part of a larger effort to pass the “Small Business Bill of Rights.”

“The provisions and reforms included in this package of bills would assure predictability and make South Carolina a better place to own, operate, and grow a business,” Homeyer said.

Besides S.B. 533, the Small Business Bill of Rights includes:

  • HB 4187, making organized retail theft a felony
  • HB 4832/SB 944, creating private insurance that would cover paid family leave
  • HB 4823, expediting permitting and regulatory reform
  • HB 4710, indexing unemployment benefits to the state’s unemployment rate
  • HB 3992, establishing a payment plan for delinquent unemployment insurance taxes

“These bills include reforms that our members believe are long overdue,” Homeyer said. “Individually, each of these measures would strengthen South Carolina’s economy and help Main Street businesses, but together, we believe they would make South Carolina unbeatable.”
