Pennsylvania State Director Greg Moreland recently testified before the House Majority Policy Committee on the impacts of inflation in small business and was quoted in The Bradford Era “With gasoline and diesel fuel prices continuing to rise, consumers are less likely to travel, which will hurt many small businesses that rely on the tourism industry…Commercially, the impact is greater. Pennsylvania is one of the most expensive states to fill up an 18-wheeler. If shipping costs increase, so will the price of goods that are being shipped.”
The Associated Press quotes Moreland on Gov. Wolf and state lawmakers’ budget-making weeks of the month: “I’m going to be pretty disappointed to be quite honest if we don’t see something big in the budget this year for small business. The timing’s right. The revenues look good. They can’t use that as an excuse any longer.” This article was syndicated to many outlets across the country.
Moreland was also quoted in the Pennsylvania Business Report on the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI): “Gov. Wolf and his team of unelected bureaucrats do not have the authority to impose a tax under the constitution. Every other state that has joined the RGGI has obtained legislative approval because they recognize the General Assembly controls the purse strings, not the executive branch.”
Pennsylvania Business Report reports on proposed state legislation that would eliminate a disadvantage that businesses in the state face when competing with those in other states, quoting NFIB Pennsylvania’s tweet: “Happy to report that SB 347 (Like kind exchanges) was just reported unanimously from the House Finance Committee. This is a top priority for the small business community and is now before the House. Thank you @SenatorDiSanto for sponsoring this important bill.”
Pennsylvania State Director Greg Moreland also spoke with WENY News about PennDOT’s plans to add tolls to nine interstate bridges: “The price of shipping goods will increase to account for the tolling, and this will affect businesses up and down the supply chain and make Pennsylvania small businesses less competitive in the aftermath of the pandemic.”
