NFIB: Burr and Tillis Understand Challenge N.C. Businesses Face in Finding Workers

NFIB State Director Gregg Thompson released the following statement in response to Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis statement urging Gov. Roy Cooper to end supplemental federal unemployment insurance:

“Senators Burr and Tillis clearly understand that the temporary pandemic-related unemployment benefits are no longer working for North Carolina.

“The supplemental benefits were essential when the pandemic began and working North Carolinians found themselves out of work through no fault of their own. One year later, businesses are hiring, but owners are struggling to find people to work. Ending the additional benefits now would encourage more people to reenter the workforce and enable small businesses and other employers to meet the increasing needs of their customers.”
