NFIB STATEMENT ON END OF NEW YORK STATE LEGISLATIVE SESSION

Date: June 06, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ALBANY (June 6, 2022) The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), New York and the nation’s leading small business organization, released the following statement by NFIB State Director Ashley Ranslow in reaction to the Legislature’s end of session:

“Throughout this entire legislative session, New York’s small businesses have been urging lawmakers to do no harm, ease the cost of doing business, and provide much-needed Unemployment Insurance tax relief. Small businesses have been sinking under the weight of record-high gas prices, unnecessarily enormous UI taxes, rampant inflation, supply chain disruptions, and widespread labor shortages. NFIB was happy to see the Legislature largely reject policies that would increase taxes and energy prices, create a government-run healthcare system, and enact new overly burdensome and punitive mandates. However, Albany neglected to address the state’s oppressive UI taxes that small businesses continue to pay. Over the next several months, NFIB will work with the Governor, Senate, and Assembly to develop a plan to lower UI taxes and replenish the UI Trust Fund, while also continuing to push for solutions to lower the cost of doing business and get the small business economy back on track.”
