ALBANY (April 25, 2022) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the state and nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, today launched a statewide radio and online ad campaign supporting efforts to oppose legislation before the Legislature to takeover New York’s healthcare system. The campaign also includes a website, NFIB.com/stopsinglepayer, with information about the bill and links to local legislators.

“NFIB doesn’t launch an effort such as this lightly, but the so-called “New York Health Act” is an existential threat to our members, Main Street small businesses, and the state’s economic viability,” said NFIB State Director Ashley Ranslow. “Access to good, affordable healthcare has been one of our members’ top priorities for decades, and this attempted takeover by the far left, progressive activists would only replace a difficult health insurance market with a bloated, inefficient, and cripplingly expensive bureaucracy.”

“Our small business members want to send a clear message to Albany politicians that we cannot afford or even survive a state-run, single-payer healthcare system and the $250 billion tax hike that would be needed to fund it,” Ranslow said. “New York’s businesses have suffered through a pandemic and state-imposed shutdowns and restrictions, with Main Street firms hit the hardest. Devastating UI tax bills, record-high inflation, supply chain disruptions, and increased labor costs on top of the state’s nation-leading tax burden already threaten New York’s businesses and employees. Now, comes this attempted healthcare takeover – a terrible idea at a very bad time. Our hope is that people will contact their legislators and encourage them to oppose this ill-advised bill.”

From government-mandated COVID-19 shutdowns to rising gas prices, New York’s small businesses have faced crisis after crisis.

Now, Albany politicians want a government-run, single-payer healthcare system that would eliminate private insurance and delay urgent care.

And they want to pay for it with a two-hundred-and fifty-BILLION-dollar tax hike on small businesses and New Yorkers – the largest state tax hike in history.
