Speak Out on Issues That Matter to Your Small Business in NFIB's Member Ballot

Date: March 15, 2023

One Member, One Vote ballot program gives greater voice to Main Street

As a small business owner, now is an important moment to tell NFIB what federal policy positions to focus on in its advocacy on your behalf. As part of NFIB’s One Member, One Vote program, NFIB recently unveiled the newest members-only Federal Issues Ballot. With a selection of major issues that matter to Main Street, this ballot will not only drive NFIB’s legislative and regulatory priorities, but it will help NFIB hold lawmakers accountable for their votes on key small business issues.

Throughout the course of the past year, NFIB has spoken to members and followed newly introduced bills to determine what issues might have the largest impact on small business owners. This new ballot features questions on IRS reporting, regulatory reform, healthcare affordability, permitting reform, and overtime eligibility. NFIB wants your vote in support or opposition to these proposed policies to determine how to best advocate for independent businesses like yours.

This ballot is only available to NFIB members.

NFIB’s member ballot system has been a constant and foundational element of our work for 80 years. Every member gets one vote on the issues. No exceptions. This highly democratic system has served small businesses well. NFIB members vote multiple ballots each year on what federal and state policy positions NFIB should take.

On each issue, small business owners can vote “yes” or “no” to indicate whether they support or oppose it. If positions on an issue gain significant majority support or opposition, NFIB’s Federal Government Relations team will take that message to the White House, Congress, and federal agencies. NFIB’s Federal Government Relations team is singularly focused on advancing small business interests in Washington, D.C.

Whether it’s existing laws and regulations that need changing, or newly introduced legislation that would impact small business, NFIB has a proven track record of getting results. We have made measurable progress on the issues NFIB members voted on through the One Member, One Vote program.

The ballot results also enable NFIB to track how members of Congress vote, establishing “Key Vote” alerts on the relevant issues. Legislators who vote with small business on key issues 70% or more of the time are eligible to earn NFIB’s Guardian of Small Business Award.

Voting on NFIB’s current Federal Issues Ballot – ballot #582 – is now open. Members can cast their votes by logging in to their account at NFIB.com/votemyballot.
