NFIB continues to work with lawmakers to improve small business owners’ access to affordable health insurance
On June 4, 2026, NFIB State Director Jeff Burdett testified before the Texas House Committee on Insurance’s interim hearing on cost drivers affecting small business owners’ access to affordable health insurance.
During his testimony, Burdett said:
“I am here today to discuss the health insurance crisis in the small business community. And it is a crisis. We need solutions – options – anything – that would help small businesses to provide affordable health insurance for their employees. Business owners need options that are more than all or nothing. I have the opportunity to go around the state and regularly talk to our small business owners about issues that affect them the most. I have yet to have a conversation with anyone who doesn’t think this is a problem. And, in most cases, it’s their biggest problem.”

NFIB is advocating for policy solutions in Austin and in Washington, D.C. that empower small business owners with more choice and control over their healthcare decisions, and lower health costs while expanding affordable coverage options.
