The owner-operator of Martin's Handmade Pretzels is making the Voice of Small Business heard in New York, Washington, D.C. — and at the White House.
New York member Josiah Martin, owner-operator of Martin’s Handmade Pretzels in Moira, was recently named the 2026 SBA Small Business Manufacturer of the Year, and he was invited to the White House to help celebrate National Small Business Week in May.
Martin’s Handmade Pretzels makes 6 million pretzels by hand each year. You can read an inspiring account of the multi-generational business story here: https://www.martinspretzels.com/pages/our-story.
Martin bought the business at the age of 17 and credits New York and local resources for helping him become a success. Martin believes small businesses offer something unique: the quality of product is better. He emphasizes that supporting local businesses matters and that being a part of a community is important.
Martin makes a point of being an NFIB member advocate to get the word out about small business and help bring about policies that sustain and support Main Street. He appreciates that NFIB educates businesses about key issues and fights for them every day.
At the White House, Martin and other Small Business Administration (SBA) honorees were addressed by President Trump on the importance of small business to America’s communities, jobs, and economy, as well as policy victories over the last year that greatly strengthen Main Street businesses.
Martin presented to President Trump a display of Martin’s Handmade Pretzels’ products. The proud honoree said, “There are many policies that have benefited my company and my employees. As a business owner, I take great comfort in knowing that we have leadership that knows how business works.”
