State Offers Tax Penalty Relief Options

Revenue Dept. launches voluntary disclosure, penalty waiver programs

The Washington State Department of Revenue has a lot of valuable information in its Spring 2026 Update that NFIB encourages its members check out. Topics include:

 New temporary voluntary disclosure programs (avoid up to 39% in penalties)

 Investment Income Program (available to businesses with unreported investment income subject to B&O tax)

— International Remote Seller Program (available to unregistered foreign remote businesses with substantial nexus in Washington)

 New Penalty Relief Program for ESSB 5814 sales tax changes

 Annual 2025 return due April 15, 2026 (applies only to businesses that file excise tax returns annually.
