ICYMI: Q&A with NFIB State Director Leah Long

April 2, 2024 Last Edit: June 5, 2025

State Affairs and Greater Baton Rouge Business Journal spoke with her what's at stake for LA's small businesses

NFIB State Director Leah Long sat down recently for a Q&A with State Affairs. The interview also ran in the Greater Baton Rouge Business Journal.

Long, who joined NFIB in February, said the top concerns facing Louisiana’s small businesses are inflation, labor, and insurance. “There was a collective sigh of relief relative to fear of employer mandates like we faced under the previous governor,” she said. “However, our members continue to fear that no progress will be made in the insurance and lawsuit reform front.

“The cost of premiums is forcing them to make tough choices about keeping their doors open or hiring new employees,” she said. “We know our legal climate impacts the cost of insurance, so we want to see both insurance and legal reform.”
