Several pro-union labor bills are a looming threat to the small business economy
What it means: Several labor bills with bipartisan support are under consideration by the U.S. Senate HELP Committee, posing a significant threat to hiring, job growth, and business investment for small businesses. NFIB sent a second letter urging members of Congress to consider the harm pro-union and pro-federal bureaucracy policies would have on the small business community.
NFIB’s take: Labor is consistently one of the top concerns for small business owners, and several policies considered by the U.S. Senate HELP Committee would compound labor challenges for Main Street businesses, while ignoring their concerns on overbearing government regulation and harmful pro-union mandates.
Take Action: Oppose pro-labor framework that adds red tape and complications for small businesses to hire and retain qualified workers!
Several policy proposals under consideration by the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) could devastate the small business workforce. NFIB sent a second letter to the U.S. Senate HELP Committee before it held part two of its labor law reform hearing urging lawmakers to consider easing mandates that threaten small businesses nationwide.
Lawmakers continue to ignore small business concerns by considering harmful pro-union labor policies that would complicate hiring and growth for American small businesses. NFIB’s letter addresses some of the more harmful proposals considered, including the PRO Act and the Warehouse Worker Protection Act. These two policies add layers of government regulation and increase government control over small business operations. NFIB also offers suggestions to repeal burdensome labor and employment regulations.
The letter also breaks down how legislation mandating sweeping wage increases would cause labor costs to skyrocket, encourage automation of operations, and force small businesses to close or sell to larger competitors.
Read NFIB’s full letter, recent policy paper, and previous letter to the U.S. Senate HELP Committee to learn more about the harsh realities of these dangerous labor policy proposals for millions of American small businesses.
