San Antonio Express-News Editorial Board: ‘State Propositions Seeking To Reduce Texas’ Taxes on Inventory Make Sense’

October 16, 2025

The San Antonio Express-News recommends Texans vote ‘YES’ on Prop 9 as ‘it would be most beneficial for small businesses.’

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 16, 2025) – The San Antonio Express-News Editorial Board recommended Texans vote ‘YES’ on Prop 9. Citing support from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the Board highlights the administrative burden of the inventory tax, and how Texas small businesses would be the primary beneficiary of Prop 9’s passage, writing:

While this exemption would be available to all businesses, it would be most beneficial for small businesses.

“Organizations such as the Texas Association of Business and the National Federation of Independent Businesses support the amendment, calling the inventory tax a form of double taxation because it applies to inventory that a business paid to acquire. They say, and we’re inclined to believe, that the administrative requirements to comply with it are excessively onerous.
