Pennsylvania’s budget stalemate continues in October with no positive signs of a resolution from lawmakers. Despite having no budget, both chambers are holding committee meetings and considering various pieces of legislation. The Senate the House will return on Monday, Oct. 6.

Some of the legislation that is moving and NFIB is actively engaging on includes:

  • SB 225 – would ensure that owners of a business whose property was taken through eminent domain are compensated for losses. SUPPORT
  • SB 562 – would allow striking workers to collect unemployment benefits. OPPOSE
  • HB 997 – would create requirements for businesses to protect personal information. Authorizes private right of action to sue businesses for a data breach, would allow individuals to receive statutory damages beyond actual damages, and it would prohibit arbitration agreements. OPPOSE
  • HB 1496 – would allow municipalities to declare local disaster emergencies and update the Pennsylvania Price Gouging Act to apply price gouging protections to goods and services during local emergencies. OPPOSE

NFIB’s staff continue to meet with lawmakers to discuss our top priorities for this session: small business tax fairness, energy independence, regulatory reform, and affordable healthcare options.

TAKE ACTION: The Pennsylvania General Assembly is still considering legislation to raise the minimum wage to $15 and create a mandated statewide 20 week paid family and medical leave for all businesses. Tell your elected officials to stop saddling small businesses with more expenses and unnecessary burdens!

ICYMI: NFIB ran thank you advertisements for Rep. Ryan Mackenzie and Rep. Rob Bresnahan Jr. for making the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent earlier this summer. See the ads here!
