McCombie Champions Legislation to Exempt Part-Time Workers from Paid Leave Act

March 18, 2024 Last Edit: July 22, 2024

IL Rep. Tony McCombie (R, Savanna) introduced legislation to exempt part-time workers from the state Paid Leave for All Workers Act.

Rep. Tony McCombie (R, Savanna) introduced legislation to exempt part-time workers from the Paid Leave for All Workers Act.

The legislation, HB 5160, would exempt employees who work less than 195 hours over a 90-day period from the mandates of the act.

The Paid Leave for All Workers Act went into effect on January 1, 2024. It requires employers to provide at least one hour of paid leave for every forty hours an employee works, up to a minimum of 40 hours per year.

NFIB has consistently opposed the leave mandate and has contested the administrative rules proposed by the Illinois Department of Labor. The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) postponed consideration of the administrative rules on March 12, urging the Department of Labor to work with stakeholders on additional clarifications.

McCombie is the House Minority Leader for the Republican Caucus.
