NFIB Nevada thanks its small-business-owning members who took time away from running their enterprises on April 21 to attend their association’s Small Business Day.

No one speaks with more authority on small business issues than small business owners, and no one gets the ears of lawmakers and holds their attention better than a small business owner from back in their districts. Presence is power. No group of people are more highly regarded by their fellow Americans than small business owners.

Stopping by to talk to and hear from members were influential Assemblymembers Rebecca Edgeworth, Danielle Gallant, Duy Nguyen, and PK O’Neill, and Madeline Armstrong, legislative director for Gov. Joe Lombardo (see photos below).

If you could not make it this year, we hope to see you at future Small Business Days. In the meantime, you can still add your voice to the legislative proceedings that are scheduled to end June 2.

We are currently working to support and oppose the following bills below:

— Oppose expansion of paid sick leave. For small businesses already running on slim margins, this mandate brings additional expenses and complexity.

— Oppose Captive Audience Law. This measure limits an employer’s capacity to discuss workplace issues with staff, therefore impeding your freedom to openly discuss your company.

— Support AB276 – This pro-small business legislation links inflation to the lowest minimum commerce tax qualifying criterion. It helps guarantee that fewer small businesses are subject to this onerous tax.

Your elected representatives need to hear from you; remind them that the foundation of Nevada’s economy are small businesses.
