Stop Unfair Credit Card Swipe Fees on Sales Tax in Connecticut.

Stop Unfair Credit Card Swipe Fees on Sales Tax in Connecticut.

April 28, 2025

Take Action on SB 1460! Connecticut businesses pay more than $100 million annually in swipe fees on sales tax.

Connecticut businesses pay over $100 million each year in credit card swipe fees on sales tax. However, your state legislature has the opportunity to relieve some of this burden! Senate Bill 1460 is a common-sense solution. It will stop payment card networks from charging interchange (or “swipe”) fees on the state sales tax portion of a transaction – an amount small businesses never keep.

Tell your legislators to stand with Connecticut’s small businesses by supporting SB 1460 to help alleviate the burden of credit card swipe fees. >>>>> https://www.votervoice.net/iframes/NFIB/7/Campaigns/125498/Respond

SB 1460 is not about attacking credit card use – it’s about creating a level playing field and ensuring local businesses can compete and thrive. Why does supporting this bill matter?:

  • Swipe fees are the second-highest cost for many small businesses after labor.
  • Without action, these fees will continue to increase and hurt Main Street.
  • SB 1460 ensures transparency and fairness in how fees are calculated.

As a small business owner, you’re already navigating rising labor, supply, and energy costs. Let’s fix this broken system and protect Connecticut’s small business economy.
