Indiana’s Small Business Community Applauds Property Tax Relief Legislation

Small business owners thank Gov. Braun & leaders of the General Assembly

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Indiana’s leading small business advocacy organization, applauds SB 1 being signed into law by Governor Braun. The legislation allows Indiana’s small business owners to be exempt from taxes on business equipment if they are purchased this year and beyond. This will be especially welcome news to small manufacturers and farmers, as it includes a small business exemption that increases from $80,000 to $1 million in 2025 and to $2 million in 2026.

“At a time when economic uncertainty is high, small businesses appreciate any economic relief lawmakers in Indianapolis can provide,” said Natalie Robinson, NFIB Indiana State Director. “Senate Bill 1 reduces the cost of capital investment for many small businesses and allows owners to keep more of their hard-earned money to invest in their businesses, employees, and communities. NFIB is thrilled to see business property tax relief for the small mom and pop shops and commends Governor Braun and the Legislature for providing lasting relief to Indiana’s small businesses.”

NFIB’s Problems and Priorities survey shows “Property Taxes (real, inventory or personal property)” as one of small business owners’ biggest tax concerns, following “Federal Taxes on Business Income” and “State Taxes on Business Income.”
