New Maryland Tech Tax Hurts Small Businesses

New Maryland Tech Tax Hurts Small Businesses

March 20, 2025

The legislature’s proposed tax increases will fall on Main Street

NFIB Maryland State Director Mike O’Halloran issued the following statement in response to the Moore Administration and legislative leaders announcing a tech tax on small businesses and consumers:

“It’s very difficult news today if you are a small business owner in Maryland. It seems the Governor and legislative leaders may still be moving forward with plans to increase taxes on small business owners that file their tax returns as pass through entities. They’re also going to tax their IT services, which are critical in today’s economy. Small businesses are being asked again to do more with less as the state continues to struggle with its structural deficit.”

Earlier this month, NFIB launched a campaign urging Maryland lawmakers to reject any tax increase on small businesses.
