NFIB Urges Governor Reeves to Sign Key Farm Relief Bills

March 20, 2025

The measures reflect a broad commitment to supporting the state's agricultural industry

NFIB is calling on Gov. Tate Reeves to sign key legislation to strengthen Mississippi’s agricultural sector and support local farmers.

“These bills extend beyond just tax relief,” said NFIB State Director Leah Long. “They reflect a broader commitment to supporting Mississippi’s agricultural community, which is vital to the state’s economy.” The bills are:

  • HB 1878/SB 2968: Clarifies how poultry farmers are assessed for property taxes.
  • SB 2204: Establishes a centralized registry for reports of stolen agriculture-related items
  • SB 2266: Requires the Mississippi Department of Revenue to publish a list of items eligible for sales tax exemptions or reduced tax rates for commercial farmers.

“By signing this package into law, Governor Reeves can help ensure that farmers have the resources they need to invest in their operations, sustain their businesses, and continue feeding Mississippi and beyond.”

The Farmers Relief Package is designed to provide much-needed support for the state’s agricultural sector, encouraging reinvestment in farming operations that will ultimately benefit local economies and food production.

NFIB represents thousands of small business owners across Mississippi, including many in agriculture. Long said the package would create a stronger business environment for farmers and rural communities.

“We urge Governor Reeves to stand with small farmers and rural businesses by signing these bills into law,” Long said. “Mississippi’s economy depends on a thriving agricultural industry, and this legislation is a step in the right direction.”
