Small business owners should still prepare for possible disruptions
The Atlantic hurricane season began June 1, and forecasters with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are predicting a below-normal season.
NOAA is calling for eight to 14 named storms, including three to six hurricanes and one to three major hurricanes. Forecasters say there is a 55% chance of a below-normal season and a 10% chance of an above-normal season.
NOAA says the outlook is based on broad climate and weather patterns and does not predict where or when storms may make landfall.
While the forecast may offer some reassurance to business owners along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, NOAA officials stress that it only takes one storm to cause significant damage. That’s why small business owners should review their hurricane preparedness plans now, before a storm threatens their community.
