NFIB Illinois Submits Comments Opposing the Elimination of the Tip Credit

Illinois small business owners oppose the elimination of the tip credit

NFIB submitted written comments to the Illinois House Executive Committee opposing HB 2982, a bill that amends the minimum wage law to eliminate the tip credit.

“Inflation has hit Illinois small businesses hard,” said NFIB Illinois State Director Noah Finley. “The last thing Main Street businesses need is another cost hike. Illinois lawmakers should support small businesses, especially family-run restaurants, and vote ‘NO’ on HB 2982.”

Elimination of the tip credit would:

  • Increase labor costs for small and family-owned restaurants and other similar businesses.
  • Contribute to rising dining-out costs, further encouraging the shift toward the carry-out and delivery food-service model and pricing out lower-income customers.
  • Decrease employment and jobs in the full-service restaurant industry.
