NFIB, the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, is launching a statewide radio and digital ad campaign in Georgia urging the General Assembly to pass Senate Bill 68, legislation aimed at stopping lawsuit abuse in the state.

“Small businesses are the backbone of Georgia’s economy, but many local businesses are struggling under the weight of excessive litigation costs,” NFIB State Director Hunter Loggins said.

“Senate Bill 68 would help Main Street businesses focus on growth, job creation, and serving their communities instead of wasting time and money fighting unfair lawsuits,” he said.

“If you’ve been injured, you have a right to seek compensation, but some cases are filed simply because someone sees an opportunity to make money,” Loggins said. “That results in higher costs for everyone. Insurance companies raise premiums on small businesses to cover the expense of baseless litigation, which drives up prices for hardworking Georgians.”

A 2024 study by The Perryman Group for NFIB and Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA) found that excessive lawsuits in Georgia cost a family of four an average of $5,592 per year – often called the “tort tax” – and led to the loss of over 135,000 jobs statewide.
