Small business owners connected with Nebraska lawmakers on economic issues

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Nebraska’s leading small business advocacy organization, recently hosted its annual Small Business Day at the Capitol. The event brought together small business owners from across the state with Governor Jim Pillen, Chair of the Appropriations Committee Senator Rob Clements, and Chair of the Revenue Committee Senator Brad von Gillern.

“Nebraska’s small business owners are facing difficult decisions due to rising costs and workforce shortages,” said NFIB Nebraska State Director Ryan McIntosh. “Regulations like the Paid Leave Mandate only add to the enormous amount of pressure Main Street faces. I’m grateful Governor Pillen, Senator Clements, and Senator von Gillern took time to hear from our members. Small businesses need lawmakers’ support now more than ever. NFIB calls on the Nebraska Legislature to pass paid sick leave reforms and other policies that will boost Main Street.”

Governor Pillen provided an overview of his priorities for this legislative session. Senator Clements, who has been a NFIB member for more than 30 years, and Senator von Gillern gave an overview of the budget process and what to expect in the coming weeks.

NFIB also updated the attendees on Initiative 436, which mandated all private employers in Nebraska provide paid sick leave to employees. They also provided an update on the 20% small business deduction and the Corporate Transparency Act.
