Issues Facing West Virginia's Small Businesses

Here’s a look at some of the issues we’ll be working on in this year’s session of the West Virginia Legislature:

Taxes on Business

NFIB will continue to fight any proposals that hurt small business.?Tax increases create a hostile environment for creating and attracting jobs for the state.?West Virginia continues to need job growth and NFIB will oppose any legislation that stifles job growth within the state.

Removal of Sales Tax Exemption on Professional Services

NFIB led the fight and won a major victory on stopping the expansion of sales tax to professional services in 2017. This will once again be on NFIB’s radar during the 2021 West Virginia legislative session. NFIB will continue to oppose lifting the exemption on professional services to avoid an additional tax increase on West Virginia’s small businesses.

Inventory Tax

NFIB continues to support the elimination of taxes on manufacturing machinery and equipment and manufacturing inventory.?This effort requires a constitutional amendment and did not move forward during the most recent legislative session.?

Mandatory Health Insurance

Coronavirus Liability Protections

NFIB will continue to support protections for small businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
