Colorado Comment on Release of NFIB’s Latest Jobs Report

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Tony Gagliardi, Colorado State Director, tony.gagliardi@nfib.org, or Tony Malandra, Senior Media Manager, anthony.malandra@nfib.org DENVER, Sept. 1, 2022—Release today of the National Federation of Independent Business’ monthly Jobs Report showed a sustained inability to fill job openings among the country’s small businesses. “I wasn’t expecting this Jobs Report to be any different from the last ones,” said Tony Gagliardi, Colorado state director for NFIB. “What remains clear, however, is Colorado must do more to get people the needed assistance in learning a skilled trade. As indicated by the construction employee shortage, the corner office might become a thing of the past when no one knows how to build the corner office.” From Today’s Jobs Report Industry/Percent with Job Openings
  • Construction 70%
  • Manufacturing 64%
  • Transportation 58%
  • Retail 51%
  • Professional services 47%
  • Services 43%
  • FIRE 41%
  • Wholesale 30%
  • Agriculture 26%
From NFIB Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg “The labor market continues to be a significant challenge for small business owners. Owners are managing several economic headwinds and continue to make business adjustments to mitigate lost sales opportunities due to staffing shortages. Almost half of owners are raising compensation to attract workers for their open positions.” Keep up with the latest Colorado small-business news at www.nfib.com/colorado or by following NFIB on Twitter @NFIB_CO or on Facebook @NFIB.CO ### For nearly 80 years, NFIB has been advocating on behalf of America’s small and independent business owners, both in Washington, D.C., and in all 50 state capitals.
