Tuesday's Primary Sets Stage for November's General Election

Missourians went to the polls on Tuesday to vote in the state’s primary election. In a contest that garnered national attention, state Attorney General Eric Schmitt beat current U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler and former Gov. Eric Greitens to secure the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Tuesday’s primary. Schmitt will square off against Democratic nominee Trudy Busch Valentine in the November general election to fill the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Roy Blunt. In the primaries for Missouri’s U.S. House seats: ? In the 1st House District, Republican nominee Andrew Jones will face Democratic incumbent Cori Bush. ? In the 2nd District, it will be incumbent Ann Wagner against Democrat Trish Gunby. ? In the 3rd, it will be incumbent Blaine Luetkemeyer against Democrat Bethany Mann. ? In the 4th, Republican Mark Alford and Democrat Jack Truman will vie to replace departing Rep. Vicky Hartzler. ? In the 5th Congressional District, Republican Jacob Turk will try to unseat Democratic incumbent Emanuel Cleaver II. ? In the 6th, Republican incumbent Sam Graves will face Democratic challenger Henry Martin. ? In the 7th, Republican Eric Burlison and Democrat Kristen Radaker-Sheafer will compete to replace departing Rep. Billy Long. ? And in the 8th District, incumbent Jason Smith will defend his seat against Democratic challenger Randi McCallian. This year’s general election will be Tuesday, Nov. 8.
