WATCH: NFIB Hosts Virtual Small Business Day

NFIB hosted a virtual Small Business Day at the Capitol today to help owners from throughout the state understand more about what’s happening in the Missouri Legislature and Congress. “We always like to get together in person, but one advantage to holding a virtual event is that NFIB members and small business owners from Kansas City to Cape Girardeau can participate without having to close up shop and drive to Jefferson City,” NFIB State Director Brad Jones said. TAKE ACTION: Tell the Missouri Legislature to vote YES on statute of limitations reform. Speakers at this year’s event included Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe, who joked that the only reason Jones invited him was to remind him to renew his NFIB members. Kehoe also talked about why it’s important for small business owners to connect with their legislators. Other speakers included state Rep. Dan Shaul (113th District), who said the House and Senate have yet to reach an agreement in redrawing federal congressional districts. Shaul also cited the unintended consequences of a proposed cut in the sales tax on groceries as a reason why it’s important for small businesses to speak out on the issues affecting them. Finally, Karen Harned, executive director of the NFIB Small Business Legal Center, briefed owners on the center’s successful challenge of OSHA’s overreaching COVID-19 vaccine mandate and urged Missouri members to contact the legal center if they need assistance.
