In The News: NFIB New York

NFIB member small business owner Peter Elitzer of New York was quoted in the Albany Times Union regarding the state’s outdated COVID paid leave law: “‘That does pose a challenge,’ said Peter Elitzer…In the meantime, business operators like Elitzer will continue to deal with the idea that New York is believed to be the last state in the U.S. that still has a special COVID sick day mandate of this nature. He said he has been expanding his business — in places like North Carolina, West Virginia, and Ohio, but not in New York. ‘Any benefit they want to give is forced on businesses,’ he said of how state lawmakers approach issues like sick leave.” New York State Director Ashley Ranslow was also quoted in the Times Union article about the ongoing COVID mandate in the state, which allows employees to take up to 15 days of paid leave: “The largest businesses or public sector employers might be able to absorb these costs, but for smaller businesses or low-margin operations it becomes a financial challenge. It is burdensome not just from a financial standpoint but also from a staffing standpoint.”
