Illinois Legislative Issues for 2023

Paid Leave Mandates NFIB opposes several legislative measures to provide extensive leave benefits for workers.  Many proposals would implement payroll taxes to create a mandated paid family and medical leave program and other legislation would mandate paid leave, for any reason, even for part-time workers.   Other Leave Mandates NFIB will be fighting against plethora other leave mandates, paid and unpaid, for various “life events” that can occur.   Predictive Schedule Mandate NFIB is opposed to legislation that mandates employers provide employees’ work schedule changes in writing at least fourteen days in advance.   Lawsuit Abuse NFIB will be opposing efforts to expand Private Rights of Action in Illinois, as Trial Lawyers continue to pursue additional venues to make money.  In addition, NFIB will seek changes to the Biometric Information Privacy Act, which has proven to provide obscene settlements for Trial Lawyers.   Estate Tax NFIB is pursuing efforts to reform Illinois’ antiquated Estate Tax, and bring it into alignment with peer states and the federal IRS tax.
