Colorado’s small business community thanks the General Assembly for advancing swipe fee reform.
DENVER, CO (May 6, 2026) – After the Colorado House passed SB 134, a bipartisan bill to eliminate credit card swipe fees on sales taxes, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Colorado’s leading small business advocacy organization, released the following statement.
“Eliminating swipe fees on sales tax is a major prriority for small business owners here in Colorado,” NFIB State Director Michael Smith said. “For years, the growing cost of these fees has put significant pressure on small businesses, many of whom are struggling to keep their doors open and the lights on. In 2024, Colorado merchants paid roughly $217 million in swipe fees on sales taxes alone. That’s money that should be kept in our communities, not paid to Wall Street banks. We thank the General Assembly for standing up for small businesses and urge Governor Polis to sign this reform into law.”
NFIB is a member-driven organization advocating on behalf of small and independent businesses nationwide.
