Small Businesses to Texas Legislature: Cut the Inventory Tax

Before you’ve even made a dime in the New Year, as a small business owner, you’re obligated to pay a tax on your inventory to the state of Texas. That tax is complicated, burdensome, and limits your ability to compete against big box stores.

Ahead of the 88th Legislature’s return to Austin, NFIB State Director Annie Spilman is urging lawmakers to cut the inventory tax. In an op-ed for the Dallas Morning News, Spilman wrote, in part:

“Allowing job creators to keep more of their hard-earned money, invest in their workers, and expand their operation will not only stabilize our recovery but also promote Texas’s economic growth. […]

“With prices continuing to rise and a recession on the horizon, there’s simply too much at stake not to act. It’s time to cut the business property tax.”
