Legislative Guardian of Small Business Award Winners Named

OLYMPIA, Wash., June 27, 2022—The state’s leading small-business association today released the names of its Guardian of Small Business Award winners for the 2021-2022 session of the Washington State Legislature. “We’re proud to honor the lawmakers who honored Main Street enterprises with their votes on issues vital to the survival of Washington state small businesses,” said Patrick Connor, Washington state director for the National Federation of Independent business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small-business-advocacy association. “These are the elected officials who back up their rhetoric with reality.” Senators and representatives were scored on 10 votes in each chamber taken during the 2021-2022 session of the Legislature. Those voting for the NFIB position at least 90 percent of the time received a Guardian award, a nationally recognized accomplishment reserved for legislators and congressional representatives who vote consistently with small business on the key issues identified by small-business owners. Although there is no standard definition of a small business, the typical NFIB member employs one to nine people and reports gross sales of about $500,000 a year. The NFIB membership reflects American small business.
