The Optimism Index fell by 2.3 points in January to 102.8, the third consecutive month
above the 51-year average of 98. Of the 10 Optimism Index components, one increased,
seven decreased, and two were unchanged. The Uncertainty Index rose 14 points to 100
(third highest reading in the 51-year history of the survey), after two months of decline.
