Small Businesses Support Bipartisan Healthcare Transparency Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 11, 2023) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, applauds U.S. House of Representatives passage of H.R. 5378, the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act. NFIB announced the legislation would be an NFIB Key Vote for the 118^th Congress. “Health insurance costs have been a longtime top concern for small business owners nationwide,” said Josselin Castillo, NFIB Manager of Federal Government Relations. “This legislation will promote necessary transparency and competition in the healthcare system, lowering healthcare costs and ultimately benefiting small businesses. NFIB commends members of the U.S. House for supporting this important legislation and promoting healthcare affordability thereby strengthening the small business community.” The Lower Costs, More Transparency Act will increase transparency and competition in our healthcare system and lower costs for small business owners and their employees. For nearly 40 years, rising health insurance costs have ranked as the number one concern for small business owners. According to a recent NFIB healthcare survey, 98% of small employers are concerned that the cost of providing health insurance to their employees will become unsustainable in the next 5-10 years. This threatens their viability as a majority of small business owners believe offering robust health benefits to their employees is very important to their ability to recruit and retain talent.
