Small Businesses Oppose Sweeping Unionization Bill in Congress
April 27, 2026
Proposed legislation favors unions and infringes on First Amendment protections
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 27, 2026) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, sent letters to leaders of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, and the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce in strong opposition to H.R. 8418. This legislation would impose a sweeping new pro-unionization mandate threatening fines if small businesses fail to notify new hires of their right to unionize and maintain a new workplace poster informing their employees of the right to unionize.
“The so-called Know Your Labor Rights Act violates First Amendment protections and unnecessarily involves the government in what should be voluntary agreements,” said Dylan Rosnick, NFIB Principal of Federal Government Relations. “Requiring small business owners to notify employees of their long-held right to unionize unnecessarily forces the small business owners to promote unionization and unfairly tilts the scales in favor of labor unions. NFIB opposes this legislation and urges Congress to reject it.”
