Small Business Victory: Voters Overwhelmingly Approve Prop 9 to Let Texas Main Streets Thrive

November 4, 2025

Prop 9 will save small business owners in Texas over $500 million annually

AUSTIN (Nov. 4, 2025) – Following voters’ approval of Prop 9, which provides critical tax relief to Texas small business owners, NFIB State Director Jeff Burdett issued a statement:

You did it, Texas! Voters came out and supported Prop 9, providing historic tax cuts that will result in an annual combined tax savings of over $500 million for small business owners across the Lone Star State. This meaningful tax relief will allow Main Street job creators to increase employee wages and benefits, support their local communities, and invest in future growth, all while making Texas more competitive with neighboring states.

This small business victory is thanks in large part to our nearly 20,000 members, many of whom took action and made their voices heard in Austin. When our members speak, lawmakers listen. I also want to thank Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Gov. Dan Patrick, and Speaker Dustin Burrows for their efforts on behalf of small business owners. Of course, thanks to the Texas Legislature, specifically Chairman Paul Bettencourt and Chairman Morgan Meyer for authoring this important tax relief bill in their respective chambers.

Thank you to the voters, who overwhelmingly stood up for small business owners and their employees. Because when we help Main Street thrive, we all thrive.”

Background:

NFIB has long supported efforts to increase the inventory tax exemption. Prop 9 increases the inventory tax (also known as the business personal property tax) exemption from $2,500 to $125,000, allowing small business owners to keep more of their hard-earned money and reinvest in their employees and community.
