HELENA, Mont., Nov. 13, 2023—Montana’s leading small business association today released its legislative voting records on Montana’s 150 senators and state representatives, and is pleased to report 81 of them had perfect, pro-Main Street tallies.

“We use our voting records on Congress and on state legislators across the country to show the real friends of small business from those who simply say they are,” said Ronda Wiggers, Montana state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), which for 80 years, has been America’s voice of small business.

“Our voting records come in particularly handy during election time, when our membership and the entire small business community need to make decisions on whom to vote for based on proof, not campaign rhetoric.”

Montana’s legislators were graded on their votes taken on five bills in the 2023 session on issues such as the business equipment tax, unemployment insurance, product litigation, theft, and marginal income tax rates.

Twenty-seven senators and 54 House members scored perfect, 100% pro-small-business voting records; six senators and 13 House members had 80% records, a handful had 20% to 40%.

“Although I was heartened to see how many lawmakers scored so well,” said Wiggers, “it was sad to see a sizable 43 of them racked up zero voting records.”

A brief explanation of the bills and every lawmaker’s vote on them can be read here.
