House Passes Bill to Increase Penalties on Retail Theft

February 25, 2026

Senate File 7, which would increase penalties on retail theft, is now headed to Governor Gordon’s desk

CHEYENNE (Feb. 25, 2026) – Following the House’s passage of Senate File 7, which would increase penalties for retail theft, NFIB State Director Michael Smith thanked the Legislature for its efforts to stand up for small business owners and urged Governor Mark Gordon to quickly sign it into law.

“Nearly every small business has experienced shoplifting, which directly affects their ability to operate and grow. Detering theft with stiffer penalties will help protect small business owners, their employees, and their customers. On behalf of Wyoming’s small business owners, I thank the Legislature for standing up for Main Street and imposing stiffer penalties on retail theft and ask Governor Gordon to sign the bill into law.”
