With Persistent Inflation, Small Business Optimism Plummets

CAPE GIRARDEAU (Jan. 17, 2023) – In a conversation with KZIM-KSIM’s Faune Riggin, NFIB State Director Brad Jones discussed the state of small business, as a recent survey found a majority of small business owners anticipate worsening business conditions in 2023, particularly as inflation persists. “[The Small Business Optimism Index] is really significant and important, especially at the end of the year, because it’s sort of a crystal ball as to how owners are feeling going into the next year,” Jones said. “The question I always look at is: ‘Are you expecting better business conditions over the next six months?’ And that went down eight points. For this particular survey, that’s a pretty substantial drop in what small business owners are thinking will happen in 2023.” CLICK HERE to listen to the full interview.
