NFIB: Struggling Small Business Owners Don’t Need Additional Mandates

Virginia Small Business Thanks Senate for Rejecting Governor's Amendment

NFIB, or the National Federation of Independent Business here in Virginia, applauds actions by the Virginia Senate to reject the Governor’s amendment to House Bill 2174, which would establish a state run individual account (IRA) saving program for workers who do not have a retirement account through their employer. One of the biggest concerns of small business owners in Virginia is that the bill expands the program to part time workers.

“Small business owners are encouraged by the actions of Senate,” said Nicole Riley, NFIB State Director in Virginia, “Our small business owners are still focused on recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. The last thing they need is a government mandated program that requires them to fill out additional paperwork and spend time away from what they do best: creating jobs for Virginia’s economy. It would also require part time employees to set aside precious income in a state-run saving account eliminating their choice on what works best for them and their families.

NFIB encourages the House to follow the Senate’s actions and reject the Governor’s amendment.
