Vermonters and Lawmakers Rally to Repeal Clean Heat Tax

Momentum building for common sense energy policies

On March 13th, a group of nearly 100 Vermonters gathered with several lawmakers at the State House for a rally in support of repealing the Clean Heat Tax and reforming the state’s expensive energy policies.

NFIB Vermont members have been making their voices heard on these issues. You can TAKE ACTION HERE – tell your lawmakers to say NO to expensive energy taxes.

State Representative Mark Higley (Orleans-Lamoille) and Sen. Terry Williams (Rutland) spoke about the need to rein in the cost and impact of Clean Heat and other energy legislation passed in recent years.

Senator Williams is the prime sponsor of S.68, which would repeal the Clean Heat Act entirely – including the controversial fuel dealer registration requirements. The bill has received discussion and testimony in the Senate Natural Resources and Energy Committee.

Representative Higley is the prime sponsor of bills to:

– rescind Vermont’s adoption of the California vehicle emissions and electric vehicle mandates (H.65)

– repeal the 2020 Global Warming Solutions Act, which mandates requires Vermont to cut greenhouse gas emissions in steps until reaching a reduction of 80% below 1990 levels by 2050, and includes the right for anyone to sue the state to enforce the mandate and be paid by state taxpayers for it (H.62)

While it remains to be seen what, if any, changes will be made, repealing Clean Heat and giving the state more flexibility – and less pressure from well-funded special interest groups – to meet greenhouse gas reductions in a cost-effective manner remains a priority of Governor Phil Scott.

Don’t forget to TAKE ACTION HERE – tell your lawmakers to say NO to expensive energy taxes.
